Earth is the third planet in our Solar System.(There are nine planets overall in our Solar System)
It's average distance from the sun is 93 million miles.
It's the fifth planet in size
It is 70% water
It's orbit around the sun is 365 1/4 days.
It's rotation is 23 hrs 56 min.
It's axis is tilted 23.5 degrees.
It's diameter is 8,000 miles
Earth has 1 satellite. (The Moon)
Scientific Information
Earth is the home of human beings and all life on Earth.
It is about the right distance away from the sun.
Like other planets, it orbits around the sun in an ellipse.
The Earth consists of a gaseous atmosphere divided into 5 layers.
--The Atmosphere-- It is thickest near the surface and thins out with height until it eventually merges with space. --The Troposhpere-- The 1st layer above the surface and contains half of the Earth's atmosphere. (Weather occurs here) --The Stratosphere-- (Ozone Layer) Absorbs harmful rays from the sun. Many jet aircrafts fly in here because it is very stable. --The Mesosphere-- Where meteors or rock fragments burn up. --The Thermosphere-- A layer with Auroras. --The Exosphere-- The upper limit of our Atmosphere.
The layers of the earth also consist of the crust, the mantle, the outer core, and the inner core.

~Earth's Moon~
The moon is Earth's only natural satellite and the fifth largest in the solar system.
The moon's surface is mostly covered in craters.
The average distance from Earth to Moon is 238,857 mi.
The moon makes a complete orbit around the Earth every 27.3 days.
The phases of the moon repeat every 29.5 days.
The moon's diameter is 3,474 kilometers.
The moon is the only celesital body in which human beings have made a manned landing.
The moon is in synchronous rotation, which means it rotates on its axis in about the same time it takes to orbit the Earth. This results in it keeping nearly the same face turned towards the Earth at all times.

The Goddard Space Flight Center lists 2,271 satellites currently in orbit. (Russia has the most satellites currently in orbit, with 1,324 satellites, followed by the US with 658.
The only man-made structure visible from space is the Great Wall of China. It stretches over 6,000 kilometers!!! (nearly 4,000 miles).
The earth is covered of land and water. Water is in the form of Oceans and land is in the form of continents and islands.
Water in the form of oceans covers approximately 70% of Earth's surface. The remaining 30% is land in the form of continents.
There are seven continents in all: Europe, Asia, North America, South America, Antarctica, and Australia.
And there are four oceans in all: Pacific Ocean, Atlantic Ocean, Indian Ocean and Arctic Ocean.
The continents and oceans
Planet Earth was created around 4.5 billion years ago.
And with over 2 million species, kingdom Animalia is the largest of the kingdoms.
It consists from plants to animals of all kinds including mammals like us.
